• FAQs on asbestos:
Despite the fact that importation of asbestos was prohibited in 1994, the Occupational Health and Safety Authority Act L.N. 123 of 2003, (CAP. 424: Protection of Workers from the Risks related to Exposure to Asbestos at Work Regulations) protects employees working with asbestos or ACMs (Asbestos Containing Materials). This law requires employers and the self-employed to do their best to reduce or altogether eliminate contact with asbestos. Therefore employers are legally obliged to carry out a risk assessment before commencing any work on ACMs.
